HORSE TREATMENT

Many horses suffer with musculoskeletal pain and discomfort, and this in turn impairs their performance and causes problems for both horse and rider. The horse is a "flight" animal meaning that they respond to danger by running, consequently they do not lie down for long periods to rest. Almost all of it activity and relaxation is spent upright and in movement. If, due to injury and discomfort they cannot stand or move squarely, the body will start to compensate by shifting its weight. Common causes of compensation issues in the horse include:

  • Accident/trauma such as a slip or a fall
  • Getting cast
  • Ill fitting tack/rugs
  • Poor foot balance
  • Weak conformation
  • Compensation/muscle wastage after an injury
  • Horses in hard work
